Getting to and From Stansted
Stansted Express – Train from Liverpool Street Station to Stansted Airport.
The easiest way to get to and from London Stansted Airport is by rail on the Stansted Express. The railway station for Stansted Airport is
located below the terminal building. You can buy tickets for the train in the airport and sometimes the airlines sell them onboard prior to your
arrival at Stansted. It’s usually cheaper to buy the tickets from the airline or online prior to your arrival at the airport. Bicycles are not
allowed on the Stansted Express. Trains usually depart every fifteen minutes and the journey usually takes around forty-five minutes. The train
travels to Liverpool Street Station in the centre of London.
By Coach
You can travel to and from London by coach; the coach pick up point is located in the front of the terminal building between the fifteen-minute
pick up area and the Fast Track. You can get a coach ticket from the coach desk located in the terminal building and you can also buy tickets on
the coach itself. The coaches are not wheelchair friendly so you would be advised to travel by the Stansted Express.
If you are travelling between Airports there is a coach service to London Heathrow and London Gatwick Airports from Stansted. National Express
runs a service every hour between Stansted and Heathrow Airport; journey time is about ninety minutes. Coaches between Gatwick and Stansted are
operated also by National Express and operate hourly and the journey takes around two hours and forty-five minutes.
Travelling to Gatwick and Heathrow by rail is via Liverpool Street Station. The Gatwick Express leaves every fifteen minutes from London Victoria
Station and takes around thirty minutes. If you are departing from the North Terminal take the free transfer coach from the South Terminal.
The Heathrow Express leaves from Paddington every fifteen minutes and the journey time is only fifteen minutes. You have to make your own way to
Paddington from Liverpool Street Station either by bus, underground or taxi.
If you are travelling by car, London Stansted Airport is located just off the M11. From London take Junction 8a and simply follow the signs on
the roundabout for Stansted. For security private cars are no longer allowed to stop off at the front of the terminal other than to drop off
passengers. Cars left unattended will be towed (charges apply)
There is a drop off / pick up Car Park. If you are travelling by car and have a satellite navigation system the postcode for Stansted is
CM24 1RW.
Motor Bikes can park free in the dedicated parking spaces in Zone D of the long stay car park.
There is a Stansted Airport taxi company which has a desk located in the terminal building. You can pre-book a taxi in advance to minimise your
waiting time.
Please check all times and details prior to your journey to make sure there are no changes. In the event of a security update or maintenance on
the railway or roads it is better to be prepared and alter your journey accordingly.
