London Stansted

Stansted is dominated by low cost, no frills airlines such as, easyjet , Air Berlin, Transavia and the Irish airline Ryanair the largest low cost airline in Europe. Stansted is the third busiest airport in the UK and handles over twenty million passengers each year, very different statistics when the airport opened in 1991.

 

The majority of flights are within the UK and Europe and there are a number of charter flights with the various Tour Operators such as Thomson Holidays, Thomas Cook, Direct Holidays, Sovereign Holidays, Cosmos Holidays and many more. There are some flights from Stansted to the USA with American Airlines and Maxjet

Stansted is the furthest of the five Airports from the centre of London. The airport was transformed with the arrival of the low cost airlines and the fact that the airport is easy to get to via the Stansted Express rail service. The train departs from just outside the airport an easy walk away. The journey takes around forty five minutes and is a direct service straight into the centre of London to Liverpool Street Station. From Liverpool Street you can access the main points of interest throughout London via the Liverpool Street underground station, which is next to the station itself. It may be possible to purchase a ticket on your flight to London usually this is at a reduced cost, ask your flight attendant if this is possible or you can pre-book online before you travel.

 

Within the terminal there are lots of shops such as the body shop, Books etc, Accessorize, Boots, Dixons Electrical, French Connection, La Senza,  HMV, Hamleys Toy Store, WH Smiths, Hugo Boss and many more. There are various bars, cafes and restaurants including; Costa, Frankie and Benny’s Deli, O’Neill’s, Pret a Manger, Starbucks, Weatherspoons and more.

The Airport is open twenty four hours a day and is also open every day, the third busiest airport in the UK and is one of the fifty busiest airports in the world. There are over thirty airlines using the airport  even though at present it has only one runway (3048m long)
