London flights

To get a cheap flight from London or any other airport you need to know all your options before deciding how to proceed. London has five airports London Heathrow, London City Airport, London Gatwick, London Stansted and London Luton. Each airport has different flights, some to the same destinations and some by scheduled flights and some by charter. London Heathrow Airport is nearly all scheduled flights as is London Luton and London City Airport. Holiday charter flights mainly leave from Gatwick and Stansted. The difference between the flights is the first thing you need to consider as this may dictate the best time for you to get the best flight from London to your destination. Generally the charter flights have become cheaper nearer the date of departure unless you are planning to travel during peak holiday dates such as Easter or Christmas, New Year and of course school holidays. If you are travelling at the beginning of June when the children are still in school there is a good chance that the flights will be cheaper nearer the departure. This will also depend on whether your destination is not this years must go destination and if there are no problems at any other destinations. If you want to go to Palma and there has been a terrorist attack in Greece or Cyprus or a health scare somewhere then all destinations get busy except the one with the problem or near to the one with the problem. Scheduled flights tend to get more expensive the nearer you get to the departure date and it is advisable to book as early as possible and take out proper insurance to cover your flight costs in the event of cancellation. There is nothing stopping you travelling on one airline and back with another however you cannot reserve a return flight and use the return segment only. If an airline sees that you have not travelled out with them they will in most cases cancel your return ticket. If you are going to do this it is best to book one way flights or a return provided you are using the outbound section. Your next step to get the best fare is to find out which London airports have flights to your chosen destination. Make sure that you are getting a flight to where you are actually wanting to go to. Luton is not in London and Prestwick is not Glasgow, low cost airlines have a habit of using airlines twenty or thirty miles away from the actual destination they are advertising. Luton is nor London yet it is accepted that the airport is called London Luton, who would want to fly to Prestwick? people want to fly into Glasgow not thirty miles to the west of the city. If you do find that your destination is one of these types of flight make sure you add on the extra transfer costs to make a proper comparison between the flight prices. Don’t forget to take into account the extra time and hassle involved especially with children and extra refreshments you may have to buy, it all adds up.
